Hello, we are West Sumatra Traveler.
Our team is made up of Bayu and Jen, along with our daughter Olivia and a whole host of family and friends, to whom we are eternally grateful.
Bayu was born in Padang and, apart from a few stints in far flung places like Papua and Peru, has lived here his whole life. He studied Anthropology at Andalas University, and has a natural gift for befriending everyone he meets. He has worked in tourism since 2013. Bayu is an expert in local culture as well as travel. When he’s not planning and guiding trips, he’s taking care of Padang Homestay, writing articles for the website, or catching waves at one of the local surf spots.
Jen is originally from the UK where she studied History in Bath. She has been an historic researcher, museum assistant, reenactor and overall history nerd. She moved to Sumatra in 2015 and has lived in Padang since then, learning the local language, culture and of course, visiting all of the sites. When not planning trips for guests, working on the website or being a full time mother, Jen works as an English teacher.
Olivia is six. She enjoys adventuring across Sumatra and beyond, playing with friends, making up new songs and… food. All the food!
